Blessed x2

This is how most of our Thanksgiving went. Happy, running, playing...enjoying our day at his great grandparents house! At about 5pm Braylen and I went to the bathroom. He tried to open a drawer and I told him no, he proceeded to go to the other one but did not touch it. Next thing I knew he fell straight back and hit his head on the floor. It was like a temper tantrum type of fall, he didn't loose balance, he didn't trip..he just went straight back. It felt like time stood still while he just laid there. He was frozen, no moving and no crying.

I yelled for Brett and knelt down beside him. As soon as I got down there his eyes rolled back in his head and his arms and legs started twitching. He was having a seizure. I yelled to call 911 as it happened. Braylen was laying in behind the bathroom door and there was no way to get anyone else in there without moving him.

The seizure lasted about 45 secs and it felt terrible to not be able to do anything for him. I do not wish to go into what all was going through my head but it was the most helpless feeling in the world. Once Brett was on the phone with 911 they had him asking me questions and giving me instructions. I cleared his mouth and turned his head so he wouldn't choke on his saliva. They had me checking his breath and just talking to him. At first he was not responsive to me at all but he slowly started tracking my voice with his eyes.

After the seizure stopped he was still not moving. By this time it was still just the 2 of us in the bathroom and I was just stroking his head and talking to him. Then the ambulance arrived and they put him on a board and took him outside. I rode with him to the hospital while he just laid there. He never cried but he starting trying to fall asleep. The paramedic told me it was okay as long as he was still able to be aroused by me talking to him.

After arriving at the hospital they took him off the board and let me hold him. At this point he was exhausted and angry. He was finally crying (it was the greatest sound in the world), they ran tests and had us hang out to observe him.

We passed the time by watching Toy Story on Brett's phone. Poor baby just wanted to sleep but the doctors said we had to keep him awake since he hit his head, going to sleep  could have been the worst thing for him at that point. They took his temperature and it was at 103.3. They asked me if he had a fever at all that day. About 10 mins before his seizure I noticed that his head felt warm. It was warm in the house and I took off my sweater and his PJs. He was not acting sick or like he felt bad at all so I just kept my eye on him. I thought he had worked himself up from running circles around the house. I wish I had taken it more seriously. They gave him Tylenol to help with the fever and let him have some juice. The doctor told us that we could let him sleep and it didn't take long for him to pass out on me.

After about an hour he woke up to his temperature being taken and it was down to 100, which was a great sign. Turns out he had a febrile seizure from his fever spiking. The seizure was not caused by the high temperature but rather the quick spike in his temperature from 99 to 103. We had a stay a little while longer to observe him to make sure he was acting normal. Since he hit his head they wanted to make sure that he had no signs of an injury. Once he woke up he was perfect, back to his normal, hyper, and happy self. We were playing and watching Yo Gabba Gabba. He started talking to the nurses and laughing. I was able to breath again!

We left not much later to go home. We stopped by Walgreen's to pick up some medicine and popsicles. He finally got to sleep at around 11pm and so did Mommy and Daddy. We woke him up every 3 hours to alternate medicine. The key to preventing another seizure is to keep his fever as low as possible. He is more likely to have another one since he had the first.

I'm sorry, I know I am rambling but it helps to get it all out. There have been 2 or 3 times today that I have looked at him and teared up. That boy is going to give me a heart attack some day. He is doing great right now though, here is how we have spent our day recovering.

Trooper

About 8 months ago we discovered that Braylen has asthma. He had some issues with allergies and wheezing. He has had one asthma attack that just really consisted of a coughing  fit. His wheezes disguise themselves outside of his lungs as coughing, so we know what to look for. If we hear wheezing we know that is worse than normal.

Generally, we control his asthma with a few medications. Every night he takes Singular, which is an asthma controller, and Zyrtec for his allergies. We also do breathing treatments 1-2 times a day depending on the severity of it. It can be a combination of a controller and a rescue medication or just the controller.

Anyways, whole point to the story is how well Braylen handles his breathing treatments. He is totally a little trooper when he has to sit still on the couch for 5 to 7 minutes and hold the piece in his mouth and breath in. We have learned that by putting one of his favorite movies on and letting him hold it that he does great, most days. Enjoy these photos of Braylen doing his medicine, he took a few seconds to laugh out loud at a few parts.

(Don't mind his little belly showing off)

Yarn Wreath

Ever since scouring Pinterest has become my favorite thing to do, I have found plenty of great ideas for things that I can make myself. I started by making a yarn wreath to hang on our front door for Christmas.

Here is what I started with. I bought 364 yards of yarn in each color and I have PLENTY left over. I used a foam wreath and some push pins as well.

I started by dividing the wreath up so I knew where to end each color. The only mistake I made was that I did not divide the colors up equally so I ended up with two red sections together. You can see how I hid it later. I used this side as the back side because it is where I stuck in the pins.

I just started by putting a few pins in the yarn to hold it in place so I could start wrapping it around. The tighter the better and it doesn't have to be perfect, it will overlap some but looks better that way!

This is what my first section looked like, I put a pin in every couple loops just for good measure.

Here is what it looked like about half way through.

...and completed! You can see the extra red in the section toward the bottom. I knew I wanted to add something to it so I just planned on adding it on top of that section to hide it. I found a tutorial from Kate over at The Small Things Blog here about how to make fabric twist rosettes. Head on over there to check it out, the instructions are really simple and they turned out great.

And here is my finished project! I love how it turned out, I wish I had made the flowers a little bigger but now I know for next time!

Ob-sessed

Some of you might know that I have discovered this thing called Pinterest. Brett would tell you that any new idea I find has something to do with Pinterest, then he would roll his eyes. It is an online community where you "pin" things that you like onto boards that are like categories. So I have boards titled with things such as food, drinks, DIY, and so on.

Try it out! If you find yourself on a wait list just post your email for me and I will send you and invite. Here are my top ten pins from this week..
