Yarn Wreath

Ever since scouring Pinterest has become my favorite thing to do, I have found plenty of great ideas for things that I can make myself. I started by making a yarn wreath to hang on our front door for Christmas.

Here is what I started with. I bought 364 yards of yarn in each color and I have PLENTY left over. I used a foam wreath and some push pins as well.

I started by dividing the wreath up so I knew where to end each color. The only mistake I made was that I did not divide the colors up equally so I ended up with two red sections together. You can see how I hid it later. I used this side as the back side because it is where I stuck in the pins.

I just started by putting a few pins in the yarn to hold it in place so I could start wrapping it around. The tighter the better and it doesn't have to be perfect, it will overlap some but looks better that way!

This is what my first section looked like, I put a pin in every couple loops just for good measure.

Here is what it looked like about half way through.

...and completed! You can see the extra red in the section toward the bottom. I knew I wanted to add something to it so I just planned on adding it on top of that section to hide it. I found a tutorial from Kate over at The Small Things Blog here about how to make fabric twist rosettes. Head on over there to check it out, the instructions are really simple and they turned out great.

And here is my finished project! I love how it turned out, I wish I had made the flowers a little bigger but now I know for next time!
